02/18 Kids' Art Workshop

This Saturday, welcome back guest teacher, Christine Flood, who will take us on an adventure into the world of all things trees! We will venture into The Fields in search of sculptures that are related to trees of all kinds. Whether hanging from branches, using trunks for balance, or even pretending to be trees, find out reasons why so many artists are inspired by these amazing creatures of nature!

Back in the studio, children will learn about wycinanki, a form of cut paper art that originated in Poland in the 19th century. Compare two styles—gwiazdy, cut from a round piece of paper, and leluja, cut from paper folded lengthwise. Children will make their own cut-outs inspired by simplified or abstract tree forms and create symmetrical designs in this traditional craft with a new twist.
