This Saturday we will hit the slopes for this years' first sledding day in The Fields! The top of our sledding hill offers a splendid view of Robert Grosvenor's painted steel sculpture, Untitled, 1968 -- a giant 'crooked line' whose bright yellow color looks bold against the white snow. Dress for the outdoors and bring your own sled if you like!
Back in the studio, we will look at the work of Swiss artist, Alberto Giacometti, known for his tall, skinny, bronze sculptures of people standing alone or in groups. Children will experiment with wire and modeling clay to make abstract forms on a wooded base. Make a figure like Giacometti, or create your own imaginary shapes and forms. This 3D adventure will have us bending, twisting, clipping, and pinching different materials while exploring the art of making a sculpture!
