This Saturday will be the last workshop until January 8th, 2012
This week, we will walk through the woods in search of Margaret Evangeline's mirror-like sculpture, Gunshot Landscape. To create this work, the artist shot stainless steel panels with a rifle in New Mexico then hung them in the forest here at Omi. Looking closely at the sculpture it is amazing to see the textures and reflections created by the bullets themselves. Get a close up look at this sculpture and understand the meaning behind why the artist chose such an unusual way to make this piece.
Back in the studio, we will work with oil pastels and watercolors to make resist paintings. Scribe marks, shapes, and drawings onto a large piece of paper with a white pastel, then create a multicolor 'wash' over the paper to reveal the images. Make a snowy scene, or experiment with abstract designs. We will sprinkle our paintings with salt to see them transform once again!
