This Saturday, we will learn about texture by feeling our way around the natural and man-made materials in The Fields Sculpture Park. How is the bark of an oak tree similar to a rusted steel form? How is it different? Is a rock found in the woods related to a poured concrete sculpture?
Back in the studio, we will further explore texture with natural, air-dry clay. Children will make a functional 'tree container', by shaping a cylinder, imprinting a wood-grain texture, and forming branches. This 3D project will test our hand-building skills as we squish, squeeze, roll, pound, and pinch the clay into works of art!
